The Civil Engineer designs authentic technical evaluation tasks, creates detailed rubrics, and prepares realistic project documentation to train AI systems. Candidates need a minimum of five years of professional experience and a strong background in managing complex civil engineering projects.

Description in English, as published by micro1.

Role Title: Civil Engineer

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

micro1 is engaging Civil Engineers to contribute their expertise to a high-impact customer project. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required, your domain knowledge is what matters.

Scope of Work

  • Design and author authentic civil engineering evaluation tasks reflecting real-world complexity in areas such as structural design, transportation, water systems, and site development.
  • Source, generate, and curate technical documents including engineering drawings, geotechnical reports, specification sheets, cost estimates, and regulatory code references.
  • Develop challenging technical problems that require nuanced constraint reasoning and code compliance, mimicking professional engineering scenarios.
  • Determine the accurate engineering solution for each task, ensuring all relevant regulatory and geometric constraints are satisfied.
  • Craft comprehensive, multi-item rubrics designed for LLM-based assessment, grading solutions for technical correctness and adherence to codes.
  • Create and validate high-volume, realistic data files (CSVs, PDFs, spreadsheets) representative of typical project documentation.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to iteratively refine task clarity, realism, and evaluative standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience contributing to civil engineering projects across diverse domains.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated mastery in preparing and managing technical documentation, including code-compliance and design specifications.
  • Experience sourcing and interpreting regulatory codes and integrating them into technical solutions.
  • Proficiency in generating or reviewing complex technical artifacts such as drawings, reports, and data sets used for project evaluation.
  • Ability to reason about intricate constraints and deliver solutions that reflect real-world engineering practice.
  • Strong written communication skills for authoring clear, comprehensive evaluation materials.

Compensation Structure

Compensation is output-based; experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications. The time required to complete work may vary depending on the expert’s experience and workflow. Minimum submission requirements apply. Experts must submit a minimum of tasks per week.

Start Timeline & Availability

We typically fill roles within 48 hours and are looking for experts ready to jump in right away. If selected, we expect you to start your first tasks within 24, 48 hours of completing onboarding.
