About the Role

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to train frontier models on high-quality insurance reasoning data. We're hiring Insurance Actuarial Specialists to design realistic pricing, reserving, and risk-modeling scenarios, evaluate model outputs against established actuarial standards, and help shape how the next generation of AI reasons about probability, loss estimation, and financial risk.

We welcome actuaries across all practice areas, including life, health, property & casualty, pensions/retirement, and enterprise risk, from insurers, reinsurers, consultancies, and corporate actuarial teams.

What You'll Do

• Design realistic scenarios involving ratemaking, loss reserving, valuation, experience studies, assumption-setting, and profitability analysis

• Create work products such as pricing models, reserve reviews, actuarial memoranda, technical assumptions, and results summaries

• Write "golden" reference responses at experienced actuarial-professional quality

• Grade AI-generated responses against structured rubrics for methodological soundness, calculation accuracy, assumption justification, and clear communication

• Identify flawed methods, calculation errors, unsupported assumptions, and gaps in documented rationale

• Provide written feedback the research team uses to improve model behavior

• Participate in onboarding office hours and calibration sessions

You're a Good Fit If You

• Have 2+ years of professional actuarial experience (any practice area)

• Understand how methods, assumptions, and data drive pricing, reserves, and valuation

• Can select an appropriate method, run the analysis, and articulate a defensible conclusion with a documented rationale

• Demonstrate excellent quantitative analysis, balanced judgment, and high attention to detail

• Can distinguish actuarial analysis from underwriting decisions and from formal financial or legal advice

Bonus Qualifications

• ASA, FSA, ACAS, FCAS, CERA, MAAA, or comparable credential (or actively passing exams)

• Experience across multiple practice areas or specialty lines

• Reinsurance, capital modeling, or enterprise risk experience

• Proficiency with R, Python, SAS, SQL, or actuarial software (Prophet, Emblem, Radar, ResQ)

• Experience with regulatory filings, rate filings, or statements of actuarial opinion

Role Highlights

• Minimum 20 hours per week (ideally 40+)
